SCHOTT Glass Grades We Process
We stock and process a variety of SCHOTT ultra-thin glass types, each engineered for specific industrial applications:
- AF 32® eco (Alkali-Free Aluminoborosilicate):
- Key Feature: Its Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE) closely matches that of Silicon.
- Applications: Ideal for Advanced Semiconductor Packaging, Wafer-Level Packaging (WLP), and Silicon interposers.
- D263® T eco (Borosilicate):
- Key Feature: Exceptional fire-polished surface roughness (Ra < 1nm) and high chemical resistance.
- Applications: Microfluidics, bio-sensors, touch panels, and covers for optical sensors.
- AS 87 eco (Aluminosilicate):
- Key Feature: Exceptionally high mechanical strength and flexibility; highly receptive to chemical strengthening (Ion-Exchange).
- Applications: Foldable smartphone displays, fingerprint sensors, and high-impact wearable cover glass.
- MEMpax® (Thin Borosilicate):
- Key Feature: Specifically developed to match the CTE of silicon for perfect anodic bonding.
- Applications: MEMS (Micro-Electromechanical Systems) fabrication and pressure sensors.
Overcoming the Fabrication Challenge
SCHOTT ultra-thin glass is an expensive, premium material. Standard mechanical processing can cause micro-cracks, leading to immediate shattering or premature failure under stress. Our proprietary processing guarantees maximum yield and component reliability:
- Ultrashort Pulse Laser Cutting: We use advanced picosecond/femtosecond lasers to cut complex geometries and drill micro-holes without thermal stress, ensuring zero micro-fractures at the edges.
- Edge Polishing & Healing: For flexible applications (like AS 87 eco), edge quality dictates bending performance. Our edge treatment removes sub-micron defects, significantly increasing the bendability and mechanical limit of the cut pieces.
- Chemical Strengthening: We can perform ion-exchange toughening on compatible SCHOTT grades to further enhance scratch resistance and impact durability.
- Cleanroom Handling & Lamination: Thin glass acts like a fragile film. We process in ISO-certified cleanrooms and ship components laminated with custom PET/OCA carrier films for safe handling on your automated assembly lines.
